The Course

Day of Race registration begins at 7:00 AM and closes at 8:00 AM
Walkers and runners start at 8:30AM

Runners will start on Front Street a few hundred feet north of the Downing Film Center. They will make a left on Fourth Street (going under the railroad overpass) and an immediate right onto Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd (this street is called Water Street on Google maps).

They will continue along Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd running with traffic on the large right shoulder of the road. (which will be lined with traffic cones.) They makes a right onto North Montgomery Street and then a left up the right fork of Park Place  (This is the only steep hill with an 82 feet of elevation gain in 200 meters!)

Runners then make a right onto Grand Avenue, and continue under the Newburgh Beacon Bridge overpass.  The turnaround is located about 60’ before reaching the Grand Avenue/Downing Avenue intersection.

The race then retraces the same route, but goes down the right fork of Park Place (steep downhill!).

Returning runners and walkers will return on the same shoulder of Martin Luther King Blvd  that they took during the first half of the race. (now they will be facing northbound traffic).

The finish is 10 feet past the front of the Downing Film Center at 19 Front Street, Newburgh, NY.

5k Race and Walk
Sat. June 28, 2014

Timing for the race:

The course was measured and the race will be chip-timed with disposable chips built right into your race number bibs by Steve Holmbraker of Eagle Timing, in Middletown, NY. If you want to know more about him you can contact him at steve@eagletiming.com  (845) 551-2018.

Why we are having this fundraising race:

In the last year the Downing Film Center has purchased a digital projector to
comply with the new standards in high definition movies available. In our
first “Drive to the Digital” we have raised over $67,000. which has almost
paid for the digital projector.

Now in an effort to show even more high quality independent films we are
refurbishing the upstairs section of our building and putting in a second
screen. We will need to purchase another digital projector. The money we
will be raising from this race will help us to pay off the loans we will be
taking out to pay for the refurbishing and for the new digital projector.
